History of Spectrum Eye Care, INC.
Chapter I
Sandusky Street
| 1979 |
In November, Dr. Jack G. G. Hendershot, Jr. moved from Olney, Illinois to Findlay in the fall. Jack G. G. Hendershot, Jr., Inc. rented space from Dr. Stealey (area ophthalmologist) at 400 West Sandusky Street, where the two doctors practiced separately
| 1984 |
In early summer Dr. Stealey retires, allowing more space for our practice and two doctors. Dr. Paul F. Armstrong moved to Findlay in early summer

Chapter II
South Main Street
| 1986 |
It wasn’t long until we outgrew our space on West Sandusky Street, and so Suite B was added to an existing medical complex at 1920 South Main Street in the spring. We opened there on April, 21st, and renamed ourselves Eye Surgeons of Findlay, Inc. With the arrival of Dr. Kurt L. Ebersole in 1990, we resumed caring for contact-lens patients. For lack of time and space, they had been eliminated from the practice a few years earlier.
| 1990 |
In January, we bought computers—our life changed forever!
| 1996 |
Suites B and C were restructured to accommodate not only the optometrists, lasers, visual field machines, and storage—but also, an optical shop. Because we outgrew the name Eye Surgeons when the optical shop was added, we became the all-encompassing Spectrum Eye Care, Inc.
| 1998 |
In April, Howard E. Wilch came to us as practice administrator after retiring from Fifth Third Bank. In his chapter, we saw many improvements—including new computers and software, new phone system, new testing machines, and new surgical procedures.
| 1999 |
In October Dr. J. Scott Stewart began driving down to Findlay from his optometry practice in Perrysburg on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
| 2001 |
In the spring Dr. Stephen H. Orr moved to Findlay from Michigan.
| 2003 |
Mike E. Wilch graduated from the University of Findlay and began moving into his father’s position, and Howard E. Wilch began moving toward being our new-building consultant.
Chapter III
Medical Drive South
| 2006 |
By this time, our employee list had grown to 30, and we had begun to compartmentalize employees into more specific areas—both physically and by workload. Without enough space again, we found ourselves building at 15840 Medical Drive South near Birchaven Retirement Village in Eastern Woods. Spectrum Eye Care, Inc. occupies 14,000 of the 24,000 square feet constructed.
