Swarupa Kancherla, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, and refractive surgery. She believes that being entrusted with a patient's vision is a profound privilege, and that every person deserves thoughtful, individualized care.
Dr. Kancherla received her undergraduate degree from Lehigh University, graduating with departmental honors in biological sciences. She went on to earn her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine, where she was recognized as a Humanities Scholar — a distinction reflecting her belief that exceptional medicine is as much about human connection as it is about technical skill. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, followed by a cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute. There she trained in the most advanced corneal transplant and complex cataract surgery techniques under some of the leading minds in the field.
Dr. Kancherla is an active contributor to the ophthalmology community, having lectured across the country and presented at meetings hosted by the Ohio Ophthalmological Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including Cornea and Ophthalmology.
Outside of the office, Dr. Kancherla is kept happily busy by her two energetic toddlers and her loving husband. She enjoys staying active, eating well, and attempting to learn the piano. A Chicago native, she claims to love all four seasons - which, having grown up there, means she has a very high tolerance for winter!
